CLOVERDALE — Middletown scored five unanswered goals after falling behind 1-0 early in the first half and went on to beat the Cloverdale Eagles 5-2 in a North Central League I varsity girls soccer game on Tuesday evening in Cloverdale.

“We made one defensive error, they’ve got speed and they got behind us and scored,” Middletown coach Lamont Kucer said of the Eagles (1-2).

Goals by Kassi Agapoff and Sophie Kucer later in the half gave Middletown a 2-1 halftime lead.

Agapoff, Kucer and Julisa Garcia scored in the second half to make it 5-1. Cloverdale’s final goal came in the final minutes on a ricochet shot.

“We talked at halftime and the girls were mad they had given up that goal,” Kucer said. “We came out in the second half and passed the ball better and looked to attack a little more.”

Ellie Bazzano picked up two assists as the Mustangs improved to 3-0 in the NCL I standings and 10-2 overall. Kucer and Agapoff also had assists.

Middletown hits the road Thursday to play Kelseyville at 4 p.m.

In other girls soccer action Tuesday:

K’ville 1, Willits 1 (tie)

At Willits, Stephanie Corona’s penalty kick in the second half pulled Kelseyville into a 1-1 tie with the Willits Wolverines and that’s how this NCL I game ended as the visiting Knights (0-1-2, 1-4-2) posted their second straight tie in league competition.

Kelseyville hosts league-leading Middletown on Friday at 4 p.m.

St. Helena 2, Lower Lake 1

At St. Helena, Fabiola Santana’s goal from an estimated 30 yards away was all the offense Lower Lake could muster in a league loss to the St. Helena Saints.

“It was an amazing kick,” Lower Lake coach Andrea Mahling said of Santana’s shot in the second half that made it a 2-1 game.

St. Helena scored a goal in each half to move out to a 2-0 lead.

“Their goalie was really good,” Mahling said of the St. Helena keeper. “Their goalie was phenomenal.”

Lower Lake’s coach said she was impressed by the effort of her players as the Trojans fell to 2-1 in league and 3-1 overall. “They played really hard. They all did really well,” Mahling said.

Lower Lake hosts Cloverdale on Thursday at 4 p.m.
