UPPER LAKE — The Upper Lake Cougars battled Geyserville to a 0-0 draw in the North Central League III opener for both of these boys soccer teams on Wednesday afternoon in Upper Lake.
“Both teams were getting shots on goal but both goalies did their job,” Upper Lake coach Kyle Moore said.
Upper Lake had a chance to take the lead late in the second half but the Geyserville keeper stopped a penalty kick to keep the game scoreless.
Sophomore Victor Santana of the Cougars, a first-year player on the high school team, kept Geyserville in check as well. Upper Lake’s keeper rejected everything that came his way, according to Moore.
“He had a great game and played really aggressively,” Moore said.
Another Upper Lake standout was freshman wingback Blaine Rhodes.
“Almost every one of their attacks had to go through him and he had a really good game,” Moore said.
Upper Lake (0-0-1 league, 0-4-1 overall) returns to action Friday against Rincon Valley Christian in Santa Rosa. Action begins at 4:30 p.m.
