KELSEYVILLE — Kelseyville and Cloverdale battled to a 2-2 tie in a North Central League I boys soccer match on Tuesday afternoon in Kelseyville.
JC Chavez scored in the first half for the Knights (1-3-1 league, 1-3-1 overall) when he knocked in a rebound off the goal frame post. The Knights’ final goal came in the second half when Agustin Ortego stole the ball from a Cloverdale defender and chipped a shot over the head of the Eagles’ keeper.
“It went right into the corner (of the frame),” Kelseyville head coach Eduardo Ledesma said. “It was a nice shot.”
Cloverdale also scored a goal in each half.
“We had a lot of one-and-one chances with their goalie,” Ledesma said. “We could have had that game but we didn’t finish it.”
Standouts for the Knights were keeper JJ Rodriguez, who is just a freshman, and midfielder Justin Perez, who had to leave the game with an injury but is expected to play Thursday when the Knights visit archrival Clear Lake.
“We’re playing a little better,” Ledesma said. “We need to work on that finishing part.”

Middletown 3, Clear Lake 2
At Middletown, the Middletown Mustangs scored on a corner kick with 15 minutes left to play and that goal stood up in a victory over the Clear Lake Cardinals.
It was the first win over the season for the Mustangs, now 1-4 in league and 1-7 overall. Clear Lake drops to 1-4 and 4-5.
“I just don’t get this team,” Clear Lake coach Shaun Hornby said. “We go out and beat a spectacular time like Willits and then turn around and lose to a mediocre team like Middletown.”
Clear Lake handed Willits its first league loss with a 3-0 home victory last Thursday.
“Middletown deserved the win, they fought harder,” Hornby said. “It was just very sad to lose a game like that.”
The Cardinals return home Thursday to play archrival Kelseyville at 5:30 p.m.
“Hopefully they wake up again for Thursday,” Hornby said of his players.
Middletown’s scoring was not reported.
