KELSEYVILLE — Soroptimist International of Clear Lake is a volunteer organization dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. Recent schedule changes, the club hopes, will improve membership by making meetings more accessible to more Lake County residents.
Among the club’s upcoming items of discussion are the 2018 “Live Your Dream” awards, SI Clear Lake’s part of a global program providing cash grants to women working to better their lives through additional schooling and skills training. According to Soroptimist International, the program has donated more than $30 million in grants to women who are the primary breadwinners for their families since 1972. By rescheduling its meetings, SI Clear Lake hopes to receive more input on programs like this.
At their planning retreat in July, SI Clear Lake decided to begin holding evening meetings on alternating months and in locations closer to the county seat. The first such meeting will be held on Thursday evening, October 11 at 5:30 pm, in Kelseyville at the Fore Family Vineyard tasting room on 3920 Main St. Anyone interested in learning more about the Clear Lake Soroptimist Club is encouraged to attend.
“We regularly meet at noon in Clearlake but we understand noon time meetings can be a challenge for working members and those that live in Kelseyville, Lakeport and surrounding areas,” said Soroptimist President Ami Landrum. “We hope by meeting closer to the Lakeport area and, after normal working hours, we can encourage new members and make it easier for current members who live in these areas to attend our meetings,” she said.
“This meeting is a good opportunity to learn more about this and other programs our Club sponsors,” said Live Your Dream Committee Chair and District 4 Supervisor, Tina Scott. “It’s also an opportunity to interact with like minded individuals who make it a personal priority to empower Lake County women to achieve their full potential,” she said.
The meeting will begin with a social at 5:30 pm including light refreshments and a no host bar. The business meeting is from 6:15 to 7:00 pm. Guests are encouraged to stay for the business meeting.
Cost to attend is $8.00, payable at the door. Please RSVP at (707) 350-9869 by October 9. For more information about the Club, visit Soroptimist International of Clear Lake on Facebook.
