A big rig well in excess of the 39-foot posted limit tried unsuccessfully to navigate Highway 175 (Hopland Grade) on Monday morning while traveling from Hopland toward Lake County. The truck was unable to negotiate the tight turn just pass the temporary stoplight on the Mendocino County sign ever after the motorist behind him at the stoplight told the driver that he would get stuck if he tried, which he did.

As motorists in both directions waited for the CHP to arrive, a Cal Trans crew arrived at the scene and restored a bit of order and the truck was able to back up and move out of the way of traffic heading in both directions.

Asked if he saw either of the flashing signs that warn truckers to avoid the Hopland Grade, he said he didn’t see them and was only following his GPS instructions.

There are four signs, two non-flashing and two flashing on the Mendocino County side that warn big rigs not to use the Hopland Grade.
