MENDOCINO — Karlee Zimmerschied’s first-half goal was all the offense Upper Lake could muster on a chilly Monday on the Mendocino County coast as the Cougars fell 3-1 to the Mendocino Cardinals in North Central League III girls soccer action.
Zimmerschied’s goal tied the game at 1-1 just minutes after Mendocino had taken a 1-0 lead.
“We had other chances, but we just couldn’t finish,” Upper Lake coach Daniella Santana said of Upper Lake’s offense.
Standouts for the Cougars (5-8 league, 7-12 overall) were Christina Roberts on defense and Atlantis Jones in the midfield. Upper Lake also got a boost from Hailey Reams’ return to the lineup after an injury sidelined her for several weeks.
“It was nice to have her back,” Santana said.
