UPPER LAKE — Put another girls soccer season into the books at Upper Lake High School where the Lady Cougars dropped a 5-0 decision to a powerful Roseland University Prep team on Thursday evening in the North Central League III and regular-season finale for both teams.

Upper Lake finishes 5-9 in league play and 7-13 overall.

“The first half of the season was amazing,” Upper Lake head coach Daniella Santana said. “Then injuries started happening and some of our girls stopped playing hard. Not all of them.”

Upper Lake sent only 10 players to the field on Thursday, which isn’t the first time that’s happened this season, and played at a one-girl disadvantage the entire way.

“I’m just glad they actually wanted to play and play hard,” Santana said of the 10 players who did suit up for the final game of the season.

“We could not catch a break with injuries this season,” said Santana, who added she hasn’t decided if she’ll return next year. “This team has a lot of potential with all of its young players.”

Leading the squad in 2018 were seniors Katlyn Minnis, Cheyanne Obedoza, Sarah Williams and Anna Jordan.

“They were great leaders,” Santana said. “Katlyn and Cheyanne, those are going to be big shoes to fill.”

Upper Lake held Roseland University Prep scoreless until late in the first half when the Knights broke through with two goals in rapid succession. Roseland tacked on three insurance goals in the second half to put the game away.

“It was another tough one against a top-notch team,” Santana said of the Knights, now 11-2-3 overall.
