LAKE COUNTY — Five Lake County football and girls soccer teams are advancing to the North Coast Section playoffs beginning this week.

In football, North Central League I undefeated champion Kelseyville (9-1) pulled down the No. 1 seed in the Division V playoffs and has a first-round bye. The Knights will host the winner of a first-round game between No. 8 Cloverdale (6-4) and No. 9 Arcata (6-4) in the quarterfinals on either Nov. 2 or Nov. 3.

Also in Division V, Middletown (7-3) earned the No. 5 seed and is home Saturday night at 7 p.m. against No. 12 seed St. Vincent de Paul (6-4) of Petaluma in the opening round. The winner advances to the quarterfinals the weekend of Nov. 9-10 against either No. 4 Fort Bragg (6-4) or No. 13 California School for the Deaf (8-2).

The other top Division V seeds are No. 2 Salesian (6-4) of Richmond and No. 3 Stellar Prep (3-6) of Oakland, the only team with a win against Kelseyville this season.

In the inaugural NCS eight-man football playoffs, the Upper Lake Cougars (4-6) earned the No. 5 seed and face No. 4 Tomales on Friday night in Tomales at 7 p.m.

Girls soccer
Middletown (20-2-2), the 11-time North Central League I champion, is the No. 4 seed in the Division I girls soccer playoffs and has a first-round bye Wednesday. The Mustangs host No. 5 McKinleyville (10-8-1) on Saturday at noon in the quarterfinals.

No. 10 seed Lower Lake (7-7-1) earned an at-large berth into the Division I playoffs and is on the road Wednesday to play No. 7 seed St. Helena in a first-round game at 7 p.m.
