LAKEPORT — The Play-it-in-Pink fundraiser recently held at Terrace Middle School is hitting close to home this year as the $3,900 raised by the students and staff will help out three teachers in the Lakeport Unified School District currently battling a disease that will affect one in eight women during their lifetime.
Helping LUSD staff members Mary Jane Howard, Mary Forsyth and Jodi Mansell on the path to recovery was prominent on the minds of the students and faculty who joined together for a fundraising volleyball match last week at the Marge Alakszay Center. The Terrace A team won 25-13, 23-25, 15-11 in a fun match that certainly held a serious side as well. Prior to play, Terrace students were honored by athletic director Angie DeMaria for the amount of money they had raised toward the fundraiser.
Donations also were accepted at the door during the volleyball match. Donors received a necklace of pink beads as well as a button commemorating the continuing battle against breast cancer.
The volleyball match featured plenty of smiles and laughs during play and countless tired and sore muscles following play – mainly on the faculty side – while fans cheered on both teams.
