Plowshares in Ukiah joined in on the fall festivities with a pumpkin painting event Friday morning.
Last month, in conjunction with the First Friday Art Walk in Ukiah, Plowshares hosted a sketching and painting activity where approximately 20 people attended. Some painted on pocket canvases and took them home. Others painted on sketch paper to hang in the cafeteria. The event was so well received they decided to try pumpkin painting.
With such a positive turnout, Plowshares has decided to try and make painting a permanent event every first Friday of the month. Traci Boyl of Plowshares said she would like to see a First Friday Open House once they had a big enough collection of artwork to host an art show.
“We would also like to connect with other artists to possibly do some kind of mural down here… for people who don’t have a home, when we are displaying it here it’s kind of like ‘This is my place.’ It’s a positive connection for them. I also think that it’s a positive way to express whatever they need to express,” said Boyl.
If you are an artist interested in contributing to the design or construction of the mural, or if you would like to donate art supplies, or if you are interested in attending a First Friday event at Plowshares please contact Traci Boyl at 707-462-8582 or email plowsharesed@pacific.net.
