Opportunities to serve

The City of Lakeport has opportunities for the general public to become involved in local government by serving on local commissions and committees. If you have an interest in serving your community, applying for a position on a city commission or
committee is a great place to start.

The City invites applications for the following Committees and Commissions: the Planning Commission, the Parks and Recreation
Commission, the Measure Z Advisory Committee (MZAC), the Traffic Safety Advisory Committee (TSAC), and the Lakeport Economic
Development Advisory Committee (LEDAC). These appointments would be effective as of January 1, 2019.

Membership on these commissions and committees is voluntary. If you are interested in serving on one of these committees, applications are available on the City’s website under the Hot Topic, “Now Recruiting: Commission/Committee Openings”

(www.cityoflakeport.com). For additional information, please contact Hilary Britton, Deputy City Clerk, at 263-5615, Ext. 102, or by e-mail at hbritton@cityoflakeport.com. Applications will be accepted until November 19, 2018 at 5 p.m.

KAS Supports Local Youth Art

Konocti Art Society has made a generous donation to support the Lake County Arts Council’s Summer Youth Art Program. KAS raffles artwork during the Kelseyville Pear Festival which earns funds that are donated to a deserving charity or group. The Summer Youth Art Program offers enriching classes for local students to learn various art forms. Teachers donate their time for these classes, and the donated money helps with needed art materials.

First Friday Art Walk

November’s First Friday Art Walk in Ukiah will take place on Friday, Nov. 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. at various downtown locations including Art Center Ukiah located at 201 S. State Street, W Real Estate, located at 101 N. State Street, and Corner Gallery, located at 201 S. State Street, among several other locales.

Fall is the time of year for harvesting the final bounty from summer gardens and settling down for a season of feasting. Art Center Ukiah features a juried art show celebrating “Feasts of the County” with paintings, fabric arts, photographs and sculpture. Live music by Steve Winkle and refreshments. Exhibit continues through Nov. 27.

Ukiah Valley Networking Agency at 304 N. State St. is partnering with the Ukiah Valley Trail Group to bring a little bit of fall into your home or office. Each year the trail group hosts work cleanup days on local trails to make repairs after storms or create new trails. Andie Wattenburger, a third-grader at Grace Hudson School, has been volunteering on the trails since she was 5. She loves to see all of the creatures on the trails when her mom takes her for walks with her friends. Join the reception at Ukiah Valley Networking Agency to see the work of Andie and other young students who use the trails.

Corner Gallery, located at 201 S. State St., will display works from 21 Mendocino County Art Association members in its front windows, including watercolor, oil, acrylic paintings, drawings, fabric arts and photography. A few of the artists: James McKell, Polly Polacek, Jeanne Koelle, Leslie Smyth and Catherine Lair. Come and see what MCAA members have been up to in their local studios. Exhibit continues through Nov. 30.
