LAKE COUNTY — When Upper Lake’s teams play at Laytonville on Tuesday night, officially opening the 2018-19 high school basketball season in Lake County, Kenny Hodges of the varsity boys will being his pursuit of 1,000 career points, a milestone he should easily pass.
Hodges opens his senior season with 847 career points, tops among active boys players in the county. Based on his scoring average last season, which was a team-best 19.4 a game, he would need approximately eight games to reach the milestone, which would make him the 49th player in county history to score at least 1,000 points.
Hodges also led the Cougars with 505 points scored during the 2017-18 season. If he duplicates that feat this season, he’ll finish his career in the neighborhood of 1,350 points, which would leave him around 11th place on the all-time list of county scorers. However, Hodges needs only 337 points to become Upper Lake’s career points leader for boys, a distinction currently held by Antwan Jones (1,183).
Upper Lake’s all-time scoring leaders are Laura Wilder (1,897), Natalie Karlsson (1,846) and Jen Bryant (1,274).

Kelseyville’s active scoring leader among girls, Kelseyville’s Payton Conrad, opens the new season with 1,154 points, which ranks her 26th on the list of the county’s all-time scoring leaders. The senior needs only 48 more points to pass Shalonda Bowden (1,201) and become the school’s career girls scoring leader. She is 563 points away from passing the school’s all-time scoring leader, her dad Scott Conrad (1,717).
Other Kelseyville all-time leaders are Kyle Ellis (1,498), Alma Perez (1,196), Tara Silva (1,175), Max Huff (1,175) and Jeff Larson (1,155).
Conrad and her Kelseyville teammates open the season Nov. 29 in the first round of the Gridley Tournament.
