Local Sears Safe after Bankruptcy and store closures
Sears Hometown Store located at 2570 S. Main St will not be affected by Sears Holdings Corporation’s recent bankruptcy filing and announcement of store closures, says owner Dan Peterson.
Sears Holding Corporation filed for bankruptcy last month, announcing the closure of 142 stores at the same time. Last week the company reported an additional 40 more store closures. However, the local Sears Hometown Store, which is independently owned and is operated under Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores Inc. will not be affected by the bankruptcy or closures, Peterson said.
Originally a subsidiary of Sears Holdings, Sears Hometown Stores “SHOS” was spun off from Sears Holdings in 2012, which created two separate companies.
The major difference between the two companies, Peterson said, is that Sears Hometown Stores sell only “hard line” items, which include appliances, garden equipment and hardware.
When Sears Hometown and Sears Holdings separated, Sears Hometown made the decision to keep using the Sears name due to its nationwide recognition. However, with Sears Holdings bankruptcy filing, there has been confusion for customers.
The only thing that’s been affected, after the first couple of days we had trouble because of the business relationship with them and things had to be sorted out with some of the mutual contracts. “We’re back on track now and it is business as usual.”
Peterson emphasized that customer’s warranties will be honored, appliances will continue to be serviced and the store will continue to offer the same products and services that they have been.
As always Peterson encourages customers to continue shopping at local brick and mortar retail stores.
