UPPER LAKE — The traditional Holiday Christmas Light Parade in Upper Lake kicked off this year’s holiday season with 17 entries on Saturday, following the ceremonial lighting of the Christmas tree and leading to Santa Claus’ anticipated arrival. The event was sponsored by the Upper Lake Community Council, the Northshore Fire Protection District and the Upper Lake chapter of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF).
A throng of revelers braved the early December cold to partake of the evening festivities which included hot food and drinks and seasonal music which led to the parade’s start at 6:30 p.m. Neighborhood children enjoyed spending time with Mickey Mouse, sipping on hot chocolate and scooping up candy flung at them from the various floats participating in the event which included entries from Upper Lake’s United States Postal Service, Upper Lake Community Church, the Upper Lake 4H Club, the USDA Forest Service and many others.
The U.L. USPS float took the top prize for “best of theme” in this year’s parade, followed by U.L. 4H Club’s entry in second place and the U.L. Community Church in third.
