Upper Lake High School’s newest and least experienced wrestlers came home with three first-place medals, a second and a third during the season-opening Coastal Mountain Conference Novice Tournament on Friday at Willits High School. Firsts went to Cody Banks, who went 3-0 with three pins at 132 pounds; to Dena Loans Arrow, who went 3-0 with three pins at 127 pounds; and to Ryan Grivette, who went 2-0 with two pins in the heavyweight division. Bradley Sneathen came in second at 182 pounds while Isabel Sanchez placed third at 127 pounds. Noah de Los Santos, Robby Harper and Jessica Abby also competed for the Cougars but did not place. Upper Lake’s more experienced wrestlers such as seniors Junior Fernandez and Adriana Lopez, who were on hand at Willits to help out their younger teammates, open their season this weekend – Fernandez at the Green and Gold Tournament in Novato and Lopez at the Bear Creek Invite in Stockton.
