LAKE COUNTY— After nearly 8 years serving as pastor to the Upper Lake SDA Church and the Lakeport Community SDA Church, Pastor Randy Brehms will present his last sermon on Sabbath, Dec. 29 at the 10:50 a.m. worship time in the sanctuary of the Lakeport church.

The soon to retire Douglas Randolph “Randy” Brehms  has been in the ministry for 40 plus years covering a wide area of the U.S. including Tennessee, Texas, Indiana, and throughout California. He had pastured a number of churches, preaching at three on the same Sabbath, traveling hundreds of miles to attend each one.

In Lakeport and Upper Lake, Brehms has brought a number of musical groups, evangelical programs, and nationally known speakers to the area.  He has been a supporting member of the Lake Ministerial Association by bringing understanding and cooperation among the various faiths in Lake County.  Church members stated that he was instrumental in bringing a warming shelter to the Lakeport community by hosting that shelter at the Lakeport Community SDA Church for the past three years.  As well as a driving force in opening the church in time of flood and fire disasters.

Brehms, along with his wife Karren, a home care Register Nurse, plan to make Lake County their home after his retirement.  As noted at the recent retirement party, hosted by the Northern California Conference of the 7th Day Adventists, “You can take the pastor out of the church, but you cannot take the love of ministering to others out of the pastor.”  Members of the church said the community will expect to see Brehms around town, sharing his passion of the Christ’s love in the community.

Community members are invited to join the Lakeport Community Seventh-day Adventist Church as they hear Brehms’ final words as pastor.  There will be a potluck following the service and the community is welcome to attend. “If you wish to bring a prepared salad, a light desert or a meatless entre’, we welcome your thoughtfulness,” organizers said adding that a basket will be provided at the potluck to accept cards and/or monetary well wishes to Brehms and Karren Brehms.
