WILLITS — Willits, the defending Coastal Mountain Conference co-champion in wrestling, opened its conference schedule with a 66-18 victory over the Kelseyville Knights on Wednesday evening in Willits.

The third team scheduled to compete in the tri-meet, Point Arena, is no longer fielding a team.

Because of injury, medical reasons and personal commitments, a handful of Knights were unable to participate. There were eight contested weight divisions and all three of Kelseyville’s wins came on falls, beginning with Javante Gregoire’s first-round pin at 220 pounds. Tanner Morris won by second-round pin at 162 pounds while Alex Garcia scored a first-round pin at 184 pounds.

In other matches, Tyler Stottsberry lost by second-round pin in the heavyweight division, Lander Hockett was pinned late in the first-round of his 126-pound match, Jacob Jensen lost on a second-round pin at 147 pounds, Ethan Scuderi-Schulman was pinned in the first round at 154 pounds, and Kris Perkin lost on a late first-round pin at 172 pounds.

The Knights forfeited at 106, 113, 120, 134, 140 and 197 pounds.

Kelseyville will send five wrestlers (Garcia, Gregoire, Stottsberry, Bryan Carrillo and Gabriel Ambriz) to the Tim Brown Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Sacramento while the remainder of the boys squad travels to Lakeport on Saturday for the annual Michael Kroppmann Invitational. The Knights return home next Wednesday to host Clear Lake and Fort Bragg in CMC tri-meet that gets underway at 5:30 p.m.
