ST. HELENA — The Lower Lake Trojans have their first winning streak of the 2018-19 season after beating the St. Helena Saints 44-23 on Wednesday night in North Central League I varsity girls basketball action at St. Helena.
“I’m pretty happy with them,” Lower Lake coach Dave Milano said of his young squad. “If you can win a couple of games in a row you must be doing something right.”
Lower Lake (2-1 league, 4-10 overall) defeated Clear Lake 43-36 on Tuesday night in Lakeport before coming right back 24 hours later to knock off the Saints (0-3).
“They played hard,” Milano said of the Saints. “We pressured them most of the game and had quite a few opportunities.”
Samantha Hughes led the Trojans with 11 points, including three 3-pointers, Alisha Jones added nine points and Anahi Robles had eight. Heather Felder and Alyssa Milano chipped in with five points apiece.
Lower Lake outscored St. Helena 18-9 in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
The Trojans play their third game in four days on Friday when they host Tehya Bird and the first-place Cloverdale Eagles (3-0).
In junior varsity action, the Trojans registered their first league victory with a 55-5 rout of the Saints. Sonja Desano and Terilyn Jeremy scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, to power Lower Lake, which lost its first two league games by a grand total of three points.
“All of our girls got a lot of playing time, which was nice,” Lower Lake coach Shannon Tubbs said.
