UPPER LAKE — The Upper Lake Cougars did enough on defense to come away with the victory, but their offense wouldn’t cooperate.
“We held them to 23 points, but we just couldn’t score,” Upper Lake coach Nick Williamson said following the Cougars’ 23-19 loss to Roseland University Prep in North Central League II varsity girls basketball action on Tuesday night at Upper Lake.
“They (Knights) did a good job of controlling the tempo,” Williamson said of his team’s second straight league loss. “We didn’t play play our normal game. We average around 60 shots a game and tonight we had 36. And 28 turnovers killed us.”
Katlyn Minnis and Cheyanne Obedoza scored five points apiece to lead the Cougars, who trailed 13-9 at halftime and 20-13 through three quarters. Alana Sanchez added four points.
“We definitely regressed tonight,” Williamson said of the Cougars’ performance.
Upper Lake is 1-2 in league and 6-8 overall. The Cougars host Rincon Valley Christian on Friday.
