UPPER LAKE — Kenny Hodges is already Upper Lake High School’s all-time career scoring leader among boys. Before he’s done this season, he could own a county record that could stand for some time.
Hodges, a senior playing his third season of varsity basketball for the Cougars, entered the 2018-19 campaign with 847 career points. Through Upper Lake’s first 20 games, he has 527 points, a per-game average of 26.4. He’s on a pace to finish the 26-game regular season with 715 points, which would break the county’s single-season scoring record of 710 points set by by former Clear Lake High School great Jenny Schaal during the 1989-90 season.
The all-time single-season points record by a Lake County boy belongs to Clear Lake’s Ryan Richardson, who scored 652 during the 2009-10 season.
With 1,374 career points going into a Saturday non-league home game against Mendocino, Hodges is on a pace to finish the regular season in the vicinity of 1,532 points, which would make him only the fifth player in county history to reach 1,500. He’s currently 11th in career points scored and could climb to as high as sixth before his season ends.
If Upper Lake (15-5) qualifies for the North Coast Section Division V playoffs, that would give Hodges at least one more game to add to his incredible career numbers.
