Lake County Republican Women Federated starts a new year

The Lake County Republican Women Federated (LCRWF) will start the new year with an 11:30 luncheon at Howard’s Grotto, Clearlake, on Feb. 13.

Guest speakers will be Richard Martin, retired judge joined by Don Jones from Ukiah, to discuss “Crime, Guns, Gun Control and CCW.”

Martin started at age 12 with a paper route in southern California, he never stopped growing and learning, dedicating himself to each job opportunity as he moved through employment opportunities including being an orderly at a convalescent home, working at a rifle range, time with Technicolor, then real estate, private investigations in Arizona and southern California for well known star personalities. He studied law at Los Angeles Valley College and University of LaVerne (College of Law at San Fernando Valley).

Martin had his law practice in Los Angeles in 1981. However, after he and his family visited Lake County in 1982, he applied for and became Lake County’s public defender.

In 2005, Martin was appointed Superior Court Judge by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to succeed Judge Robert Crone on his retirement. After 12 years in the Lake County Superior Court, he retired on May 31, 2017.

Jones is chief range safety officer and chair person of the CCW Program at Ukiah Rifle and Pistol Club.

Free Solar Workshop on Feb. 9

Homeowners: have you been thinking about going solar, but don’t know who to trust, or what questions to ask prospective solar installers?

Homeowners interested in going solar are invited to a workshop at Round Table Pizza, 821 11th St., Lakeport at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday Feb. 9. “Go Solar With Confidence” is billed as a fun and informative free workshop on solar energy for the home presented by Carol Cole-Lewis, Independent Solar Consultant with Upstart Energy.

Attendees are asked to bring a copy of your most recent electricity bill to see how they can start saving money on day one by installing solar.
