BAKERSFIELD — Lower Lake High School’s competitive cheerleading squad placed third in Level 1 on Saturday at the JAMZ State Championships held at the Rabobank Center in Bakersfield.
Mountain View won the state championship and Dos Palos came in second.
“Our routine was solid but we had a stunt fall which hurt our score and kept us out of first,” Lower Lake assistant coach Joshua Wade said. “This is not something we have had happen in the past so we are going to focus our practices on what went wrong and how we are gong to address it before nationals,” he added.
Each team gets one shot to impress the judges during a routine that lasts 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
“We are pleased with our score (minus the fall), which we will improve on over the next week and a half,” Wade said. “We believe we can make some minor changes which will improve our score in Las Vegas.”

Other schools sending teams to the JAMZ State Championships were Mercy Bulingame, Nogales, Trinity, Edgewood, Andrew Hill, St. Anthony, Narbonne, Lincoln, Novato, Davis and Vanden.
Lower Lake’s next stop is the JAMZ National Championships on Feb. 22-23 in Las Vegas.
