LAKE COUNTY — A week after the latest atmospheric river storm passed through Lake County, dropping nearly 14 inches in some locales, flooding, mudslides, and fallen debris were responsible for many ongoing road closures around the county.
After reaching a high of 10 feet Rumsey on Saturday, Clear Lake was at 9.9 feet Rumsey Friday morning, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The Rumsey Gauge is a standard of measurement used to track the height of the waters of Clear Lake.
Lake County Water Resources data taken at 2:30 p.m. Monday showed the lake at just below 9.8 feet Rumsey. The Cache Creek dam was open and draining 4,470 cubic feet per second.
Weather forecasts on Monday predicted a dry week to come in Lake County, and the NOAA predicted Clear Lake to drain to a level of 9.2 feet Rumsey by Friday.
Sacramento-based National Weather Service forecaster Idamis Del Valle told the Record-Bee Monday that a weak weather system Tuesday would drop less than 0.1 inches of rain in most parts of the county. “It does look like it’ll be very, very light, and mainly in the northern portions of Lake County,” she said.
After that system, “it should be pretty dry at least through early next week,” Del Valle added.
Del Valle noted that NWS models “are suggesting that there could be a weather system that moves into the area maybe Tuesday afternoon (March 19).”
