LAKE COUNTY — While the accomplishments of the Clear Lake boys basketball team, Lower Lake competitive cheer squad and wrestlers Adriana Lopez and Junior Fernandez of Upper Lake and Jasmin Clarke and Alex Garcia of Kelseyville have dominated the local sports scene of late, the waterlogged high school sports season is underway.

Though there have been only a handful of varsity and junior varsity baseball games to date, more is on the way once Mother Nature relents. Softball, track, tennis, golf and swimming are also warming up in the on-deck circle as the calendar flips to the busy month of March.

If field conditions permit, a handful of games are on the schedule for Friday when Lower Lake visits Upper Lake, Middletown travels to Healdsburg, and Kelseyville hits the road for Colusa. In softball, Clear Lake is scheduled to open a new season with its new coach (Morgan Psalmonds) at home against El Molino, Middletown hosts Justin-Siena, and Lower Lake visits Upper Lake in the debut of new Lower Lake coach Dave Milano.

Saturday varsity baseball activity includes Clear Lake visiting Upper Lake for a non-league doubleheader and Middletown hosting McKinleyville. In softball, Upper Lake visits Clear Lake for a doubleheader and Lower Lake is home against Eureka for a doubleheader.

Middletown’s track team and new coach Don Cobb return to action Saturday at the Big Cat Invitational in Santa Rosa.

Spring sports coaches, JV and varsity, are welcome to report their results to the Record-Bee sports desk at 900-2018.
