HEALDSBURG — Shaelyn McIntire pitched a three-hitter and also homered as the Clear Lake High School softball team won its season opener with runs and runs and runs to spare on Monday against the Healdsburg Greyhounds in Healdsburg.

Final score: 37-0 Clear Lake.

Along with being Clear Lake’s season opener, it also was the head coaching debut of former Clear Lake softball star Morgan Psalmonds, who teaches at Lakeport Elementary School. Psalmonds is being assisted this season by younger sister Emily, another former Clear Lake softball star, mom Marci, the Cardinals’ varsity volleyball coach, and dad Phil, Clear Lake’s junior varsity boys basketball coach and the former softball head coach at Kelseyville High.

Clear Lake scored 10 times in the top of the first inning and 12 times in the top of the fifth. The game was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

The Cardinals’ offense banged out 18 hits and was led by Lilli Hill, who went 5-for-6 with two doubles and five RBIs; Madi Ferguson, who went 3-for-4 with a double, solo home run and six RBIs; Joy Ingalls, who went 3-for-3 with a double and a RBI; and McIntire, who went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and three RBIs overall.

Ferguson and McIntire both homered during Clear Lake’s five-run third inning, McIntire blasting a drive to left-center field and Ferguson hitting hers to right-center.

On the mound, McIntire blanked Healdsburg (0-2) on three hits while striking out four and walking one.

The Cardinals return to action Tuesday at Ukiah. First pitch is 4 p.m.
