LAKE COUNTY — Middletown High School wide receiver/defensive back Victor Guzman and Kelseyville High School lineman Liam Terrell will be honored along with 22 other high school football players from throughout the Bay Area on Friday night during the 59th annual National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame awards banquet at the San Francisco Airport Marriott Hotel in Burlingame.
Guzman and Terrell are representing the Lake/Mendocino Branch after being selected from among their peers late last year. They will each receive $1,000 college scholarships.
Only seniors are considered for the award, which takes into account athletic ability, grade point average and school leadership/community involvement.

Scholar-athletes are nominated by their coaches and divided into two categories – linemen and backs. The application and transcripts from each nominee are reviewed by a committee that consists of former teachers/administrators/coaches and media. Nominees are scored on a scale of up to 100 points by each judge. Guzman and Terrell beat out a field that included scholar-athletes from both Lake and Mendocino counties.
Guzman carried a 3.93 GPA and plans to attend the University of Nevada-Reno as an engineering major. He helped Middletown claim the North Coast Section Division V championship this past season.
Terrell carried a 3.70 GPA and plans to attend Universal Technical Institute as he trains to become a diesel technology major. Terrell was a big part of Kelseyville’s undefeated league championship season in 2018 and was honored on the All-League first-team defense.
Branch winners from Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano and Sonoma counties also will be present Friday night when each athlete will be introduced and presented with his $1,000 scholarship. Guest speakers are planned.
