FORT BRAGG — The combined Clear Lake/Kelseyville high school swim team opened a new season Thursday during a four-team meet at the CV Starr Aquatic Center in Fort Bragg.

Also present were teams from Arcata, Mendocino and meet host Fort Bragg.

Head coach Agustin Merodio said he was proud of his team’s first effort, especially given that seven of his 15 swimmers are new to the sport.

Because Clear Lake/Kelseyville has no home pool, all of its meets are on the road again this season. The team visits Willits next Thursday at 4 p.m. Warm-ups begin at 3 p.m.

If you would like to support the team, a fundraising bingo night is set for March 23 at the Lakeport Senior Center beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Merodio said the team is grateful for the assistance of Quail Run Fitness Center, which lets the swimmers practice in their outdoor pool.

Following the Willits meet, the Clear Lake/Kelseyville swimmers visit Petaluma on March 21 and St. Helena on March 28.
