K’ville blanks Willits, Clear Lake tops Anderson Valley

Knights blank Willits 5-0, Cardinals beat AV 4-1

WILLITS — Kelseyville High School opened the 2019 tennis season with a 5-0 non-conference victory over the Willits Wolverines on Friday afternoon in Willits.

The Knights (1-0) lost only one set in the process while winning all three singles and both doubles matches against the Wolverines.

In singles play, Justin Perez defeated Daisy Barnett 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in No. 1 singles; Bodhi Baird beat Manny Banuelos 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles; and Allison Bryant defeated Emmy Vill 6-3, 6-2 in No. 3 singles.

In doubles action, Dylan Vargas and Jeffrey Amendola were 6-4, 6-1 winners over Aleen Hernandez and Carla Von Kaltenborn in No. 1 doubles, and Hanna Scully and Katie Luce beat Claire Case-Brackett and Nick Karkar 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 in No. 2 doubles.

Kelseyville also won an exhibition doubles match as Carson Mayo and Kian Naampuran prevailed 6-2, 6-3.

Iris Angeleri and Andy Dobusch return to coach the Knights for a second straight season.

Kelseyville opens its Coastal Mountain Conference schedule March 19 in St. Helena at 4 p.m.

Clear Lake 4, And. Valley 1

At Boonville, Clear Lake High School’s tennis opener produced a road win over Anderson Valley High School.

Singles winners were Bobby Lasher, 6-3, 6-4 in No. 1 singles, and Ian Sammel, 6-4, 6-0 in third singles; Stacy Partridge dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision in No. 2 singles.

In doubles action, Trinity Ingersoll and Dylan Bennett won 6-0, 6-1 in first doubles while Quinn Wynacht and Rosa Ruiz prevailed 6-1, 6-1 in second doubles.

“This was an impressive start to the tennis season,” Clear Lake coach Dennis Fay said. “This group of Cardinals amaze me with their hard work but even more so with their tremendous team spirit. We appreciate our hosts who were very gracious.”

Participating in exhibition matches were Ana Del Bosco, Leanne Rivera and Kendall Markham.

Clear Lake opens its Coastal Mountain Conference schedule Thursday on the road against Cloverdale at 4 p.m.
