CLOVERDALE — The Clear Lake High School tennis team pulled out a 3-2 victory over the Cloverdale Eagles during a Coastal Mountain Conference match on Thursday in Cloverdale.
Ian Sammel’s hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 win in third singles was the final match of the day and snapped a 2-2 tie.
“We were thrilled to come away with this victory against a strong opponent for our first conference win,” Clear Lake coach Dennis Fay said. “The team has really come together to play good tennis and support one another. We look forward to a busy week as we travel to Middletown and St. Helena.”
Clear Lake also won both doubles matches against Cloverdale. Trinity Ingersoll and Dylan Bennett were 6-3, 6-3 winners in No. 1 doubles while Rosa Ruiz and Quinn Wynacht breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 victory in No. 2 doubles.
Clear Lake’s losses came in first singles as Bobby Lasher dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision, and in second singles as Stacy Partridge fell 6-1, 6-3.
The Cardinals are playing all of their matches on the road this season because they no longer have playable courts to host opponents. They travel to Middletown on Tuesday and to defending CMC champion St. Helena on Wednesday.
Clear Lake is 2-0 on the season.
