NORTH SHORE— Lake County’s North Shore is one of the larger sections of this area and the North Shore Business Association has been focused on helping business owners and community leaders navigate the waters of business for decades. The North Shore is an exciting and happening place, as usual, starting with the return of Wild West Day on June 3.
The North Shore Business Association (NSBA) is helping to put this fun event on which brings tourists and locals from near and far to enjoy a look back at the Western past that is so exemplified by the architecture along Main Street, Upper Lake where the festivities are held. As is tradition, the event will feature a parade including a significant equestrian participation as well as gunfighter demonstrations by a group that comes to us from Sacramento.
The NSBA meets monthly at Judy’s Junction restaurant on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 a.m. for networking and with an official meeting start time of 7:30 a.m. This gives participants a chance to get in on what’s happening, enjoy a terrific breakfast buffet and still get to their places of business. The community is always welcome.
NSBA meetings include participation by local government officials so there are often presentations on what’s affecting the community and business climate by those able to make decisions on these effects. Our local District 3 Supervisor, Fire Chief, School Board Administrator and several others are often on hand for updates.
Furthermore, NSBA meetings often have guest speakers on topics of interest to the business community. This organization also has evening meetings every other month for those unable to attend the morning soirées. Details, including time and location, are always available at www.n-s-b-a.org which is also where you can join the organization or sign-up for monthly email updates.
From a business standpoint there’s lots going on including the proposal by Dollar General of a store in Upper Lake. This issue is always polarizing for each community and we’ve been there for the community meetings and updates as have a significant number of community members.
Of course news of the Lucerne Hotel, a.k.a. The Castle, having sold to an organization that is hoping to bring Paradigm College into the area is of great interest to the community. In communities with a thriving college atmosphere the business community enjoys quite the benefit as well as college students come in to break ground on their futures and need all the services to support life while they are there.
The energy of fresh ideas college students bring should also not be underestimated so we will keep an eye on happenings there with fingers crossed.
With the combination of the tremendous number of vehicles along Highway 20 and the population of locals there is ample opportunity along Lake County’s beautiful North Shore. But we have our challenges ahead of us as well. The idea is to work together as a team and be informed about what’s going on.
That’s the kind of thinking we continue to foster at the North Shore Business Association. We hope you make time to join us at an upcoming meeting and wish you the best of success however you define that in your adventure in Lake County.
