PETALUMA — Light rain fell throughout a Coastal Mountain Conference South golf match on Monday afternoon at the par-72 Petaluma Country Club course, but given how the 2019 spring sports season has gone for the Middletown and Kelseyville teams, the weather was just beautiful.
“We’ve had two preseason and two league matches postponed (because or rain/wet conditions) so far,” Kelseyville coach John Berry said. “This is the worst I’ve ever seen it.”
St. Vincent, the multi-time defending CMC South champion, won only the second conference match of the season to improve to 12-0 in the standings. The Petaluma private school turned in a score of 324 (the combined four low individual rounds) to easily beat Middletown (375). Credo was next at 428 followed by Kelseyville with 460 and Technology with 481. St. Helena’s team was incomplete (fewer than four golfers) and Geyserville was a no-show.
“The course drains well and it’s in a beautiful setting,” Berry said of Petaluma Country Club. “It (rain) didn’t impact play at all.”
Bradley Hogin and Bennett Adams of St. Vincent tied for the day’s low round, a 2-over-par 74. Among other teams in the field, St. Helena’s Will Peterson had the next-best round at 87 followed by Middletown’s Derek Coulter and Austin Pritchard, both with 90, and Credo’s Dylan Geraux with 95.
Kelseyville’s low round went to Cory Holt with 101.
Middletown’s Christian Hicks fired a 96 and teammate Andrew Martz had 99.
Kelseyville, Middletown and St. Vincent are taking part in the Ukiah Invitational next Monday in Ukiah. CMC South play resumes April 11 with a match at Hidden Valley Lake beginning at 2 p.m.
