Lake County Democratic Central Committee meeting

The Lake County Democratic Central Committee will hold its regular monthly business meeting on Thursday, April 4, 2019.The meeting takes place  at 6:30 p.m. at Kelseyville Event Center, 5245 3rd St, Kelseyville.

The agenda for the meeting includes reports from representatives for Congressmen Mike Thompson and John Garamendi, Assemblywoman Cecilia Aguiar-Curry and State Senator Mike McGuire, as well as reports from the representative of the Lake County Democratic Club.

Meetings are open to the public and committee membership is open to all registered Democrats. The Lake County Democratic Central Committee is the official governing body for the Democratic Party in Lake County.

Paul Alexander Memorial Scholarship 2019

The submission deadline nears for the applications of The Paul Alexander Memorial Scholarship.  For the 20th time, a $500 award and plaque will be presented to a Lake Country high school senior or recent graduate who has been actively involved in FFA and/or 4-H.  The application deadline is April 30.  The requirements, application form, and other information are available in the 2019 Lake County Fair premium book, on-line at http://celake.ucanr.edu/files/133214.pdf, or the 4-H/Cooperative Extension Office (883 Lakeport Blvd, Lakeport, CA).  Local high school counselors and club advisors also have forms available.  Completed application packets are due on or before April 30 to the same address.

The scholarship is named after Paul R. Alexander and his wife Otha who together served over 75 years as 4-H volunteers.  Alexander was involved in the very first Lake County Junior Livestock auction in 1951 and never missed the event until the year of his death in 1998.  He served as Jr. Livestock Superintendent for many years and one of the fairground buildings was named in his honor.  Individuals or groups interested in contributing to this scholarship fund to ensure its perpetuity would be greatly appreciated.  Contributions can be sent to the 4-H/Cooperative Extension office in Lakeport or to Peggy Alexander, 1050 Eva Way, Lakeport, CA 95453.

Earth Week at Mendocino College

Mendocino College will be hosting Earth Week April 8-12 to initiate community awareness about climate change and other environmental issues through a multidisciplinary approach. The week will be devoted to talks, demonstrations, displays, and activities geared around the topic. All Earth Week events will be held in the Student Center at the Mendocino College Ukiah campus and are free and open to the public! There will also be a wide variety of Mendocino College faculty that will be focusing on climate change in their classes during throughout the week. The Earth Week schedule includes Solar oven building and cooking demonstration— Math Engineering Science Achievement Program (MESA), Earth Friendly Food by Mendocino College Culinary Arts Department, Green cars on display from Thurston Auto Center, and numerous other activities throughout the week.
