WILLITS — Fort Bragg High School won its third straight match to remain undefeated in the Coastal Mountain Conference North golf standings on Wednesday at Brooktrails Golf Course.
The Timberwolves posted a team total of 346 (combined low rounds of the top four golfers) to edge out Willits with 356. Clear Lake had the only other complete team and finished with 370. Both the Lower Lake and Point Arena squads were incomplete (fewer than four golfers) while Mendocino was a no-show.
Gray skies yielded barely a trickle of precipitation, according to Clear Lake coach Ted Mattila.
“There was a sprinkle, but I didn’t even feel it,” he said. “It was a wonderful day.”
Brooktrails is a nine-hole course that features eight par-3 holes and a single par-4.
“It’s a beautiful course,” Mattila said. “Considering how much rain there was here (last month) I thought the course was in pretty good shape.”
Fort Bragg’s Elijah Hall fired the day’s low round, a 77. Tied for second place with 83 were Lower Lake’s Mike Taliaferro and Trevor Didelot. Clear Lake’s Jacob Lopez was alone in fourth place with 85 while Fort Bragg’s Clay Anderson rounded out the top five with 86.
Other low rounds for Clear Lake featured a 94 from Nathon Lopez, a 95 from Rylee Mix and a 96 from Miles Mattina.
The CMC North has next week but returns to action the following week with matches on back-to-back days — April 16 at Adams Springs on Cobb Mountain and April 17 at Tayman Park in Healdsburg.
Through the first three North matches of the season, Fort Bragg is 15-0 to Willits’ 12-3. Lower Lake is third at 8-7 followed by two-time defending North champion Clear Lake in fourth place at 7-8.
