MIDDLETOWN — Cloverdale High School junior Tehya Bird is a one-player wrecking crew regardless of whether she’s pitching or hitting for the undefeated Eagles this season.

On Wednesday, Bird pitched a two-hitter, homered twice and drove in nine runs as the Eagles hammered the Middletown Mustangs 22-0 in a five-inning game that keeps Cloverdale perfect in the North Central League I softball standings (6-0) and on the season (12-0).

Coming off a perfect game in her last start Tuesday against St. Helena — a 17-0 Cloverdale victory — Bird came right back a day later to throw another shutout, this time against the Mustangs (1-4, 3-8), who trailed only 8-0 until the top of the fifth when the Eagles busted loose for 14 runs. She struck out 10 and walked two.

Bird also had a huge day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three extra-base hits – the two home runs and a double. She scored four times. Cloverdale finished with 18 hits.

Savannah McLaughlin took the loss for Middletown. Team statistics were not reported.

The Mustangs are on the road Friday to play Kelseyville at 4 p.m.
