
LAKEPORT — There were other teams besides Middletown High School taking part in the annual Lake County Meet in track and field on Monday at Clear Lake High School, but the purple and gold jerseys of the Mustangs dominated pretty much everywhere you looked in both the girls and varsity boys divisions.
Middletown’s girls racked up 220 points, five times as many as the other four Lake County schools combined. Clear Lake had the next most with 19 followed by Kelseyville and Upper Lake with 10 apiece and Lower Lake with five.
The varsity boys division was another one-sided affair with Middletown taking the team title with 182 ½ points to Kelseyville’s 41 ½, Lower Lake’s 34, Upper Lake’s 32 and Clear Lake’s 17.
Clear Lake dominated in the frosh-soph boys division with 129 points to Lower Lake’s 69, Middletown’s 51, Kelseyville’s 25 and Upper Lake’s 1.
Girls
Middletown won 13 of the 14 events held, with Clear Lake’s Tianna Jardstrom breaking up the shutout with her first-place finish in the 300-meter low hurdles in 53.82 seconds.
For the Mustangs, Alyssa Hart, Kelsey Lemoine, Brooklyn Huffman, Giana Tyrrell and Taelor Roderick combined for 11 firsts. Hart won the 100 low hurdles (18.04), the high jump (4 feet, 2 inches) and the long jump (12-1) while Lemoine hit the finish line first in the 100 (13.81) and 200 (28.63). Huffman scored victories in the 1,600 (6 minutes, 7 seconds) and 3,200 13:43), Tyrrell won both the 400 (1:06.2) and 800 (2:44.84), and Roderick posted easy wins in the shotput (33-9) and discus (120-10).
The Mustangs also won both relays – the 4×100 (52.1) and the 4×400 (4:29.21).
Boys
Middletown finished first in nine of 14 events in the varsity boys division, led by Isaac Rascon’s victories in the 800 (2:19.85), 1,600 (5:03) and 3,200 (10:54). Single-event winners were Hagan Cadwallader in the 100 high hurdles (18:17), Jack Farres in the 300 low hurdles (47.2), Bryson Trask in the shotput (53-11 ½) and Greyson Rockwell in the discus (100-10).
The Mustangs also won both relays – the 4×100 in 48.33 and the 4×400 in 4:05.50.
Lower Lake’s Jared Meek topped the field in both the high jump (5-10) and triple jump (39-1/4) while Kelseyville’s Jesus Duarte won the long jump (18-2).
Beau Marek of Kelseyville logged two wins as well, finishing first in the 200 (24.24) and 400 (54.47). James Juarez of Upper Lake won the 100 in 11.81.
Frosh-soph
Multiple-event winners in the frosh-soph boys division were Lower Lake’s Angelo Dwight, first in the 800 (2:03) and 1,600 (5:41); Dante Moreno of Kelseyville, first in the 100 (12:06) and long jump (18-1 ¾); and Jose Garcia of Lower Lake, first in the shotput (37-2) and discus (98-5).
Schedule
Lake County’s track and field athletes return to action Saturday at the Coastal Mountain Conference Championships in St. Helena, with the top finishers in each event moving on to the North Coast Section Championships the following weekend.
