CONCORD— Nick Dobusch’s long and successful career for the combined Kelseyville/Clear Lake swimming team ended Friday during preliminary competition at the North Coast Section Championships in Concord.

The Kelseyville High School senior went undefeated again this season in both the 100-yard butterfly and 100 backstroke, earning first-place medals in both events at the Coastal Mountain Conference Championships on April 27 in Fort Bragg.

Dobusch posted personal-best times in both events during sectional competition but was unable to gain the finals in either event. He had the 23rd best time overall during the 100 butterfly preliminaries at 51.95 seconds. He was 24th in the 100 backstroke at 54.37.

Dobusch’s senior year could mark the final one for the combined Kelseyville/Clear Lake team, which may not return next season because it does not have a competitive pool to train in. Since the closure of the Westshore Pool next to the Clear Lake High School campus, the team has made use of the Quail Run pool in Lakeport to train, but the facility lacks all the swimmers require to retain their competitive edge.
