The July wine release parties and artist show receptions at Lake County Wine Studio will be held on July 5, 5 to 8 PM and July 7, 4 to 7 PM with Anthony Farrington of Naughty Wood Cellars, and artist Bernadette Straub.

The $15 ($12.50/per person for Studio club members) wine sampler featuring selected appetizers by Cache Creek Catering, will showcase the 2017 Chardonnay paired with a chicken and green apple salad, 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon with soy and garlic roasted mushrooms with sesame seeds, and the 2015 Cuvée with onion confit flatbread with white cheddar and parsley.

Anthony Farrington is a local Lake County native and resident. He currently practices law full time, and formerly served on the Lake County Board of Supervisors. While serving as a County Supervisor, Farrington became a huge proponent and advocate for the growth of our wine industry where he worked with numerous wineries and vintners in the development and expansion of the Lake County wine industry. During this time, Farrington fell in love with Lake County wine and decided that he wanted to launch his own private label, “Naughty Wood,” which is a culmination of both his private and professional pursuits. Accordingly, Farrington founded Naughty Wood Cellars, and his current offerings are product of collaboration with local wineries and wine maker Chris Nelson from Nelson Vineyards in Mendocino County.  April 2019, Naughty Wood Cellars released a 2017 Chardonnay, 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2015 Cuvee (red blend).  This production is entirely from Lake County.

The artist for July is Bernadette Straub.  She was born in Syracuse, New York, and was raised there, as well as Mexico and Maryland.  From Maryland she moved to California in her early twenties.  Straub has been a Lake county resident for nearly 30 years. Her artistic career spans almost 50.

Straub moved to Lake County for a postal job that she has now retired from. During that time she kept her artistic interests alive.  She received her AA from Mendocino College and her BA from Sonoma State University.   She studied painting with Robert Comings, ceramics with Gary Medina, sculpture and drawing with Kate Armstrong, and she worked with Rolf Kriken of Nordhammer Foundry in Kelsyville to produce her bronzes.

Straub is inspired in part by codes, Dada, geography, history, language, literature, music, mythology, nature, puzzles, Surrealism and symbolism.  For more on Straub and her art please visit her Facebook page @Rhino Designs.
