
WILLITS – Members of the Lake County Channel Cats swim team competed in their first summer meet Saturday and Sunday hosted by the Willits Otters.
Among the top finishers were Madelyn Madrzyk, 14, who was first in the 50- and 200-yard freestyle events with her fastest 50 time to date; Dutch Koschik, 8, who shaved off time in the 50 freestyle while earning a second-place finish in the B division, and brother Wade Koschik, 7, who finished second in the 25 freestyle in the C division.
Other notable finishes went to Alora Nieto, 9, who bettered her times in all eight of her events, including second-place finishes in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke in the C division; Tori Tropf, 11, second in the 100 freestyle in the C division; and Amirah Jassar, 11, fourth in the 100 butterfly in the C division, her first time competing in that event.
