LAKE COUNTY — The Lake County Record-Bee will honor the top boys sports and girls sports coaches from the recently completed 2018-19 high school season next month in its print and online formats.

The county’s boys and girls Athletes of the Year will be recognized after the Coach of the Year winners are announced.

There is no formal nomination process for the Athlete of the Year or Coach of the Year awards. The Record-Bee selects the winners based on season results as well as input from coaches, both those inside and outside the county. Neither award is for career achievement. Athlete of the Year candidates must be juniors or seniors who compete in at least two varsity sports and are in good academic standing at their respective schools. Team performance and success is the primary factor considered in picking Coach of the Year winners. Multiple-sport coaches can be considered only in their best sport – girls or boys (it’s not cumulative).

Honored in 2017-18 were Athletes of the Year Colton Hall and Aly Ferguson of Middletown High School and Coaches of the Year Jeff Mielke of Middletown (baseball) and Angie Wade of Lower Lake (competitive cheer).

Finalists for the 2018-19 Athlete of the Year awards (listed in alphabetical order) are Junior Fernandez (Upper Lake), Alex Garcia (Kelseyville), Drake Harbison (Middletown), Rodrigo Lupercio (Clear Lake), Jared Pyzer (Middletown) and Adrian Villalobos (Kelseyville) among the boys, and Kassi Agapoff (Middletown), Allison Bryant (Kelseyville), Grace Davidson (Kelseyville), Kelsey Lemoine (Middletown), Adriana Lopez (Upper Lake) and Grace Southern (Middletown) among the girls.
