Happy 4th of July!!!! Your dogs’ least favorite holiday!
Many a years have I witnessed dogs running down the streets full bore to get to no where, or anywhere, that was far enough from the noise and confusion that wreaks havoc in a phobic dogs mind on the 4th of July.
Face Book is inundated with posts on July 5th of all the missing pets. Flyers are on hung on telephone polls and pets can be sighted, wandering and unaware of their new and unfamiliar surroundings that they ran to in a frenzy.
Did you know that 50% of dogs suffer from some form of noise phobia! The sound of Fireworks can be one of the most frightening sounds to your dog.
What can you do to keep your dog safe and sane this Independence day?
Start now:
Make sure your dog is wearing is collar with tags with your phone number on it.
Confirm your dog is micro chipped and can be read and that you registered his microchip.
Conduct a perimeter check of your yard. Confirm gates close and latch securely and apply a lock or karabiner for extra stability.
Better yet, keep your dogs inside on the 4th. If you will not be at home, garage or kennel outdoor dogs with fans and noise and kennel or keep your indoor dogs in a room with loud music, TV, or fans to drown out the sound.
Keep current photos in the event your dog was to escape so that you can make missing dog flyers.
Some of your dogs may need a sedative. Check with your vet today and beat the rush.
CBD might also be a nice alternative. Check with your local CBD distributer and local pet store for CBD dog cookies and dosing.
Try to avoid coddling your dog when they are frightened. This can reinforce fearful behaviors. Try to entertain them, play a scent tracking games or fetch or do some training activities with them instead.
This may be a repeat article, but if it keeps one dog safe and home and free from harm, it’s worth the redundancy.

This is 4 year old Bonnie. She was spotted in a lovely sports car sheltered from the sun with a fancy umbrella. She is a Cattle dog and enjoys traveling. She goes everywhere with her dad Bill.
