
YUBA CITY — The Kelseyville Little League All-Star baseball minors team (ages 8-10) improved to 2-0 with a 10-3 victory over Southshore in quarterfinal action of the California District 2 tournament on Sunday at the Peach Bowl Little League complex in Yuba City.
Maddox Velez-Pounds earned the victory on the mound for Kelseyville and Case Pivniska closed the game out with two innings of relief.
Kelseyville, the No. 5 seed in the 16-team tournament, returns to action Friday against either No. 8 Middletown-Cobb or No. 1 Wheatland in the semifinal round. First pitch is 6 p.m. at the Peach Bowl. The winner advances to the championship round on July 8.
In opening-round action on June 25, Kelseyville pounded No. 12 seed Live Oak 16-1. Pivniska knocked in four runs and Ryan Keithly had two RBIs in the lopsided victory while Bryson Wood and Walker Ryan had one apiece. Jacob Amendola struck out four.
The Kelseyville minors team is managed by Rob Williams and coached by Mike Lyndall and Matt Cunningham.
It’s a busy time for Kelseyville’s All-Star teams. The majors team (ages 10-12), the No. 1 tournament seed, beat North Yuba 5-4 in its opening-round game last week and is back in action Wednesday against either No. 4 Sutter Area or No. 5 Sutter Buttes at 6 p.m. at the Sutter Area Little League fields.
Kelseyville’s Junior All-Stars open play Sutter Area on Monday at 6 p.m. at the Live Oak Little League fields.
