
LAKE COUNTY— As is tradition, a number of events have been planned to celebrate Independence Day tomorrow throughout the county including the 14th annual Cardboard & Duct Tape Regatta taking place at Library Park, Third Street beginning at 11 a.m. and Lakeport’s annual street fair from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. which features a festival type atmosphere and culminating with city-sponsored fireworks over the lake after dark. In addition, a myriad of other events are scheduled for the holiday weekend.
During the Regatta, residents get an opportunity to build their own boat using cardboard and duct tape. The three class categories include: youngster, teenagers and adults. Trophies and medallions will be awarded. Registration for the event starts at 10 a.m. tomorrow and the first race follows an hour later. The event is free to all participants.
According to information made public by the Lake County Chamber of Commerce, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. the Blue Wing restaurant in Upper Lake will be firing up their big industrial barbecue for a big family event. The restaurant staff noted they will have a few dishes to order from the kitchen, but the main option is an all-you-can-eat barbecue buffet featuring ribs, chicken, tri-tip, blackened rock cod, stuffed mushrooms and a variety of salads, all for a price of $30. There will also be music on the veranda by the Will Siegel Trio.
No cooking or clean-up needed – bring the family to the barbeque and still have time to get to Lakeport for the fireworks show. Reservations are needed so those planning to attend should call 707-275-2233.
The 4th of July Kelseyville Kickin’ in the Country Street Dance is one of the new street dance dates happening on the first Thursday in July and August and this one just happens to fall on Independence Day. Organizers noted they could not think of a better way to celebrate than with the C.A.M. (Cobb Area Musicians) This dance will be starting a half hour earlier and ending a half hour earlier in order to give people in attendance to go watch the fireworks afterward.
The Kelseyville American Legion Hall Tredway Post No. 194 located at Second and Gaddy Lane is also offering a barbecue from noon to 5 p.m. tomorrow with a suggested donation of $12. The proceeds go to support veterans in Lake County.
The largest fireworks show in Lake County is at Konocti Vista Casino and Resort on Friday. The show is over the lake at the Konocti Vista Marina where those in attendance can watch from land or water. The event is a free entry for all ages to watch the fireworks. A full bar and barbecue is also available from 1 p.m. until the end of the Fireworks show which starts at dark. Attendees are asked to bring their own lawn chair or blanket and to come early and find a space on the lawn. The actual fireworks display is at approx 9:30 p.m..
In South County, The Lakeshore Lions Club is sponsoring its 62nd annual Redbud Parade and Festival. The parade will start at Redbud Park at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 6 and will proceed down Lakeshore Drive to Austin Park. The theme of this year’s parade is “Lake County Roots”. According to organizers, this year we will be featuring local marchers, decorated floats, vintage cars, parade & show horses, fire and police vehicles and much more. The Lakeshore Lion’s Club will also sponsor the firework display at dark.
Also this holiday weekend there will be the 20th annual Show and Shine Car Show, arts and craft vendors, games and entertainment for all. The Clearlake Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the 51st annual International Worm Races. The Midway of Fun Carnival begins today and runs through Sunday.
This is the largest fundraiser for the Lakeshore Lions Club, so club members ask residents to please show their community spirit and
support by helping the club raise money for all the many causes Lakeshore Lions Club aids in the community. They support the eye glasses and vision care for the needy, high school sports, scholarships and many other school activities, South Shore Little League, our Fire and Police Departments, the Senior Center, Community, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, and many other notable causes.
