LAKE COUNTY — Boats need to steer clear of nesting grebes on Clear Lake, according to Faith Rigolosi, owner of Eyes of the Wild, a pontoon boat guided trip service on the lake.

Rigolosi said many grebes are beginning to nest on the lake, including an area of heavy activity between Windflower Point and Konocti Vista Casino on the north end of the lake. She encourages recreational boaters as well as fishermen to stay at least 100 yards away from any nesting activity they encounter.

Dozens of nests with grebes sitting on eggs have popped up in the past week, according to Rigolosi. When disturbed, the grebes often abandon the nests. She said she recently witnessed several bass boats approaching the nests.
