KELSEYVILLE — A large turnout of 50 campers, girls about to enter the fifth through 12th grades in the upcoming 2019-20 school year, received intensive training in all phase of the game this past week during the annual Kelseyville High School Volleyball Camp at the high school gym.
Campers from throughout the county honed their skills during the Monday-Thursday camp, which is led by Bear Grassl, the women’s volleyball coach at Sonoma State University, as well as members of the Kelseyville High coaching staff, including varsity head coach Donelle McCallister and assistant Larry Bresso, the former longtime head coach of the Knights.
Kelseyville’s camp is actually two camps in one as younger players (entering grades five through eight) and older players (entering grades nine through 12). All players receive the same hands-on training from staff in a fun-filled environment, with controlled scrimmages and game-like situations ending each session.
Kelseyville High School has definitely benefited from its own camp in terms of success on the court. They enter the 2019 season as the four-time defending North Central League I champions and are 55-1 in their last 56 league matches. Additionally, the Knights are coming off one of their best seasons ever after going 33-7 in 2018 and reaching the Northern California playoffs. They return the league’s most valuable player from last season in senior outside hitter/setter Allison Bryant.
Kelseyville officially opens its 2019 campaign on Aug. 12, the first day of practice.
