MIDDLETOWN — The Middletown Bocce Ball League (MBBL) will soon begin play on two recently completed bocce ball courts located at 21443 Pine Street in Middletown. The courts are located behind the Jesus Christ Fellowship Church.
According to league president Richard Koury, MBBL is still in need of members and all those interested in playing should go to the league website at www.middletownbocce.org to sign up and get involved. Teams will compete over a six-week period in the fall and spring. A minimum of four and a maximum of eight players comprise a team. Anyone who wants to play but does not want to organize a team can sign up on the website and teams needing players will contact them. Single applicants can also put together their own team.
Each team will have a name and a “capo,” which acts as the captain and provides direction for rules of play. Bocce is an easy game to play and requires no special skills or athletic ability. The main purpose of the league, according to Koury, is to have fun and bring the community together. Contact information is listed on the website for anyone who has questions.
The MBBL is a California non-profit corporation and operates only on members’ fees and donations. Donations are welcome and all donors will be recognized on the website and at the bocce ball courts.
