LAKEPORT— Lakeport Unified is excitedly preparing for the upcoming school year. There will be several new staff members joining our efforts to create a positive learning experience for all of our students. We welcome a new Lakeport Elementary School principal, Talin Tamzarian. She comes to us with several years of experience as a principal and served last year as principal of Pine Ridge School in Paradise. Shaun Roderick will be the new assistant principal at Clear Lake High School and is joining our team from Middletown. Carolyn Rideout is our new Food Services Director and Belinda Patrick has moved up to be the Director of Transportation. Jacque Eishens is our new Business Manager and her experience and relationship with the county office of education are already proving to be a benefit to the district.
We are excited to begin fully utilizing the new Learning Resource Center at Terrace School. The facility was finished in May and is going to be a great space for the students at TMS. The outdoor eating and play area have already created a sense of community and pride. Terrace will also be introducing Robotics as an enrichment class and hopes to compete in robotics club competitions. Clear Lake High School will be starting a new career pathway in conjunction with Mendocino College. This dual enrollment program will prepare students for careers in public service, such as law enforcement and fire protection. Lakeport Elementary will be implementing a new English Language Arts Curriculum this year as well as continuing to build a strong positive culture for students.
For the first time in nine years, we will be increasing the cost of meals throughout the district. Prices have been raised to match the ongoing increases in the cost of food. Breakfast will now be $2.00, Lunch for K-8 students will be $2.50 and 9-12 students will pay $3.00. We will continue to participate in the National School Lunch Program and applications for free or reduced meals will be sent home on the first day of school. If you have questions about the program you can contact the district at 707 262 3028.
Our focus this year as a district is to maintain our positive momentum and build a solid foundation for students and families. Our intent to provide safe, quality programs throughout the district. Parents and family members are always welcome on our campuses. Your input it vital to ensuring our continued success. We will be looking to increase our community and family involvement and welcome all ideas and suggestions. We are ready to come together and roll up our sleeves to make the 2019-20 school year the best yet. We can’t wait to see all of our families and students on the first day of school, Tuesday, August 13.
