Back for season No. 35 at Middletown

Defending section champions return to the field as 2019 season opens

Day one of season No. 35 for Bill Foltmer as Middletown High School's varsity football coach dawned on Monday as the Mustangs and their veteran coach began the process of preparing for the 2019 season, which opens Aug. 23 with a home game against Napa High School. Middletown is the defending North Coast Section Division 5 champion although the Mustangs drop down into the newly realigned Division 6 playoff field for 2019. Middletown has appeared in the section finals each of the past two years and is gunning for a threepeat this season. Monday was the first official day of football practice for all of Lake County's high school teams, junior varsity and varsity. The other fall sports officially open next Monday.
