Mendo Bucket Challenge

LAKEPORT — Mendo Mill in Lakeport is holding its annual High School Bucket Challenge, a fundraiser for the athletic programs at Clear Lake, Kelseyville and Upper Lake high schools, on Sept. 13-15.

Customers can purchase a 5-gallon bucket for $5 and designate which high school – Clear Lake, Kelseyville or Upper Lake – they want the money to go to. Mendo Mill will then match that $5 with another $5 for a total $10 donation.

That 5-gallon bucket is a great deal for customers as well as they will receive a 20-percent discount on items placed in the bucket and purchased at the store (some restrictions apply). A year ago the three high schools took home nearly $1,000 apiece through the fundraiser.

Other Mendo Mill stores are holding the same fundraiser for schools located in their area.

Amateur is Sept. 21-22

COBB — The 36th annual Lake County Amateur Golf Championship is set for Sept. 21-22 at Adams Springs Golf Course on Cobb Mountain. The $110 entry fee includes two rounds of tournament golf, the prize fund, trophies, a taco bar luncheon and tournament tee prizes.

The Amateur features divisions for men’s scratch, net, senior and senior net golfers. Billy Witt, a top area golfer, is the defending champion. Other defending champions are senior champ Jerry Pendleton, net champ Tom Salie, and senior net champ Jerry Tilton.

The entry deadline is Sept. 16. Entries can be picked up at area golf courses. For more information, contact tournament director John Berry at 245-5047.

The Lake County Amateur is a player point event on the Lake County Amateur Golf Circuit and is a fundraiser for Lake County Junior Golf.

Cardinal Golf Shootout

COBB — The Cardinal Golf Shootout, a fundraiser for the Clear Lake High School girls basketball program, takes place Sept. 29 at Adams Springs Golf Course on Cobb Mountain.

The event is a four-person scramble with a team sign-up fee of $300. Prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place teams, to closest-to-the-pin winners, and to long drive winners. There is also a special hole-in-one prize.

Check-in time is 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with an 11 a.m. shotgun start. Golfers will be treated to a barbecued meal following the tournament. The entry fee includes 18 holes of golf and a motorized cart.

Under the tournament format, all players tee off and the best drive is used. All players hit again from that point and repeat the best ball process through the end of the hole.

Checks should be made payable to CLHS Girls Basketball and mailed to 1310 11th St., Lakeport, CA, 95453. You can also sign up at Plaza Paints in Lakeport or at Adams Springs Golf Course.
