ROHNERT PARK — A piece of the puzzle is missing and the Middletown Mustangs hope to find it sooner rather than later.
“We have good hitters, servers and passers,” Middletown varsity volleyball coach Vanessa Davis said on Tuesday night after watching the Mustangs fall 25-18-25-15, 25-23 to the Rancho Cotate Cougars in non-league action in Rohnert Park, “but there’s a piece missing. I think maybe we’re missing that fire.”
The Mustangs (2-4) were far from being at the top of their game Tuesday, according to Davis.
“It was pretty ugly,” she said. “We played pretty flat.”
There were a couple of notable performances, according to Davis. Abbey Brown led the team with a season-high 12 kills and Bella Dubois had nine kills and one ace.
Things don’t get any easier for the Mustangs on Thursday when they host the El Molino Lions, who dropped a five-set thriller to Kelseyville a week ago in Forestville.
“I hear they’re pretty good,” Davis said of the Lions.
Rancho Cotate also won the junior varsity match on Tuesday, prevailing in two sets (scores weren’t available).
