UPPER LAKE— Lake County Wine Studio (LCWS) is hosting a wine release party and artist show reception with Bryan Kane of Sottomarino Winery, and artist Karen Whittington on September 6, 5-8PM and September 7, 4 to 7 p.m..

The $15 ($12.50 per person for Studio club members) wine sampler and appetizers by Fresh & Bangin’ Eatery will showcase the newly released 2015 Primitivo paired with an Armenian cucumber salad with Sumac, the 2015 Sangiovese with blistered Shishito peppers with shaved almond and goat cheese, 2015 Soprafinno (Super Tuscan blend) with Saucisson d’Arles Sausage with roasted Asiago cheese, and the 2015 Aglianico with braised beef, garlic spread and raspberry sauce on a pita chip.

Karen Whittington is a self taught artist, who as a child was able to create works of art as soon as she was old enough to hold crayons and pencils in her hand.  Her grandmother was encouraging and would suggest that she draw a scene, and Whittington was able to recreate it.  Born and raised in Napa, California she had fond memories of visiting Lake County as a child. 30 years ago she moved into a house built by her father in the Riviera West development of Kelseyville, and there she and her husband raised their family.

While working as an assistant to the director of nurses at a local hospital, Whittington was encouraged to try her hand at painting and she has not stopped painting since.  “I can paint 10 hours a day and love every minute of it,” she said.  Her preferred medium is acrylics.  Also a dog lover and rescuer, she has an adopted Boston Terrior and a Greyhound.

Sottomarino, meaning “submarine” in Italian, is an urban winery located on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay, that offers a line-up of authentic, highly rated Italian varietals made from grapes grown at select Lake County vineyards.  Produced in an old-world style, every wine they have released has received 90+ points ratings.  Recognized as one of the “Next Generation Cult Winemakers” by Sommelier Journal, winemaker Bryan Kane’s non-interventionist technique intends to bring forth the true flavor and characteristics of the vineyard through to the wines and has defined him as one of the pioneers in the “natural wine” movement.

Lake County Wine Studio is a gallery for display of arts and a tasting room, wine bar and retail shop for the fine wines of Lake County. Artist’s shows are held on a monthly basis with art and wine receptions held the first Friday and subsequent Saturday of each month.

The gallery is located at 9505 Main Street in Upper Lake. It is open Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 7 PM, and Friday from 1 to 8 PM.  The Whittington art show will be on display for the full month of September.  For more information call Lake County Wine Studio at (707) 275-8030 or (707) 293-8752
